A question about America's newest hero and inspirational story, the beautiful and bold Caitlyn Jenner. Should you technically be referred to as a she or her when you still have a penis and no vagina? This is confusing the hell out of me. Especially now that they refer to the 1976 Olympic Decathlon Gold Medalists as Caitlyn and phrase it as a "she" that won the medal. We all know Caitlyn didn't have breast during those olympics so its like revisionist history or something.

To me you can't change your chromosomes. I don't care if you consider yourself a chicken, if you have XX you are a female. If you have XY you're a dude.

I agree, but all of the PC internet commenters and media out there insist he is a she simply because he/she wants it so. And they will blast you if you disagree. Is it really that simple? Can I simply become a woman because I want to and say it to be so? This could get abused by a lot of people really fast. I bet my son would be a bigger star if he competed in the girls basketball league vs. the boys. Same for softball. Can I make this happen simply by declaring it? Hey Willy, I was just sharing the opinion of the John Hopkins psychiatrist who considers it a mental disorder. I'm definitely not as educated in that field to get into the background or identify the specifics for it and you're probably more educated in that it sounds. I guess you're right with just about anything being considered under the mental health issue and as a straight man, I consider taking hormones and wanting to cut your dick off and be a woman and change your name at 65 as 'insane.' But like I said, I don't know what constitutes as a mental disorder medically or pinpoint which one.

I too, think he is a narcissist and believe being in that family for decades has messed him up. I really do believe that being around dominating women (what? “This intensely felt sense of being transgendered constitutes a mental disorder in two respects. The first is that the idea of sex misalignment is simply mistaken – it does not correspond with physical reality,” McHugh wrote. “The second is that it can lead to grim psychological outcomes.”


The transgendered person’s disorder, said Dr. McHugh, is in the person’s “assumption” that they are different than the physical reality of their body, their maleness or femaleness, as assigned by nature. It is a disorder similar to a “dangerously thin” person suffering anorexia who looks in the mirror and thinks they are “overweight,” said McHugh.


This assumption, that one’s gender is only in the mind regardless of anatomical reality, has led some transgendered people to push for social acceptance and affirmation of their own subjective “personal truth,” said Dr. McHugh. As a result, some states – California, New Jersey, and Massachusetts – have passed laws barring psychiatrists, “even with parental permission, from striving to restore natural gender feelings to a transgender minor,” he said.


The pro-transgender advocates do not want to know, said McHugh, that studies show between 70% and 80% of children who express transgender feelings “spontaneously lose those feelings” over time. Also, for those who had sexual reassignment surgery, most said they were “satisfied” with the operation “but their subsequent psycho-social adjustments were no better than those who didn’t have the surgery.”


“And so at Hopkins we stopped doing sex-reassignment surgery, since producing a ‘satisfied’ but still troubled patient seemed an inadequate reason for surgically amputating normal organs,” said Dr. McHugh.


The former Johns Hopkins chief of psychiatry also warned against enabling or encouraging certain subgroups of the transgendered, such as young people “susceptible to suggestion from ‘everything is normal’ sex education,” and the schools’ “diversity counselors” who, like “cult leaders,” may “encourage these young people to distance themselves from their families and offer advice on rebutting arguments against having transgender surgery.”


Dr. McHugh also reported that there are “misguided doctors” who, working with very young children who seem to imitate the opposite sex, will administer “puberty-delaying hormones to render later sex-change surgeries less onerous – even though the drugs stunt the children’s growth and risk causing sterility.”


Such action comes “close to child abuse,” said Dr. McHugh, given that close to 80% of those kids will “abandon their confusion and grow naturally into adult life if untreated ….”

I don't care if he wants to be she-ra or whomever. Is the media biased? Sure, but who cares. Always amazes me when conservatives dry and restrict the freedoms of others. He or she has the right to live their life the way they want. That is freedom. I thought a fundamental tenant of freedom is the ability to live your life the way you see fit.

My problem with him/her whatever, is that he claims he is a woman but has come out already and said he is and will continue to be attracted to women. He will not be open to dating men, so I have a problem with "him" identifying as a woman but still acting open his male tendencies. I sure as hell don't want it sharing a locker room or bathroom with my young daughter.

I get that. Most people are disgusted by him.
But will he/she be sharing a locker room with your daughter? Cant this same scenario be applied to gays sharing locker rooms or being in the military. For all we know, you have an ugly daughter (not saying you do) that he wouldnt even be attracted to...

Other than that, when does his rights to do whatever the hell he wants, i.e own guns, not shave, be a woman, infringe upon your rights?

If she wants to identify as female, cool. Not affecting me in any way, so I'm going to save my rage and mockery for someone more deserving. Like Mike Huckabee.

Since it is a mental illness, or some kind of genetic abnormality that was created in the womb, then it wouldn't be a choice. No one chooses mental illness or to be abnormal. If you do believe it to be a menal illness, then you can't say it was a choice. The two contradict each other.

However, I have known women that have changed teams back and forth in their adult lives. So, I don't know what is going on there. That happens with women, but I have never seen it happen with men. Other than Beecher and Chris Keller from OZ.

I agree with, anyone should be able to do anything they want at anytime. I want to shoot my neighbors annoying ass dog, good to know you are in my corner. I kid.

I reality what stops a a guy who doesn't have any real inner desire to be a woman, coming out tomorrow and saying I feel like a woman and want to use all the women's facilities from here forward? I am all for people's rights and am about as anti big government as they come...but seriously we are to the point we are allowing people to say what gender they are today, tomorrow and goinng forward even though the genetically and physically are not?
